Both FDA-Cleared and MFDS-Approved: What That Actually Means

FDA 510(k) Clearance (United States)

MFDS Approval (South Korea)

South Korea’s medical device regulator was previously known as the KFDA and is now called the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS).

Manufacturers operating in South Korea must follow the country’s medical device registration and licensing requirements. Depending on the device classification and supporting evidence required, the process may involve certification or approval and the submission of technical documentation. 

For PinkyParadise, an MFDS designation refers to the regulatory status held by a specific Korean-manufactured lens or manufacturer. It should not be interpreted as a blanket claim covering the entire catalogue.

Why Both Matter

FDA clearance and MFDS approval show that a lens has been assessed under two different regulatory systems. Together, they provide checkable information about where the lens is manufactured and whether it has met the applicable requirements for those markets.

However, regulatory status does not replace:

• Correct cleaning and storage.

A cleared or approved lens must still be suitable for the individual wearer and used according to professional and manufacturer instructions.

How We Verify Prescriptions

For customers in the United States, PinkyParadise requires prescription verification before processing contact lens orders. This applies to prescription colored contacts and plano colored lenses with no vision-correction power.

Customers can complete verification by:

• Uploading a clear copy of a valid prescription issued by an eye-care professional.

• Providing the prescription details together with the eye-care professional’s name and phone number.

• Submitting the prescription later while the order remains pending.

When professional contact details are provided, PinkyParadise contacts the eye-care professional to confirm the prescription. The practitioner has eight business hours to respond. 

If no response is received within that period, the prescription may be treated as verified under the applicable verification process. Invalid or inaccurate information may result in the order being cancelled. 

Customers should order only the exact brand, power and specifications prescribed for their eyes..

What We Don’t Do

PinkyParadise does not treat colored contact lenses as ordinary fashion or costume accessories. Our published standard is that regulatory status, prescription requirements and product specifications must be communicated accurately.

We do not:

• Claim that plano lenses are exempt from prescription requirements where the law requires verification.

• Describe FDA-cleared lenses as “FDA-approved.”

• Use “KFDA-approved” as a current claim; the regulator is now the MFDS.

• Present one product’s clearance or approval as applying to every lens from the same brand.

• Substitute a different lens brand or specification without the required authorisation.

• Recommend sharing lenses, rinsing them with water or wearing them beyond their replacement schedule.

• Suggest that Halloween contacts are safe simply because they are decorative. 

Customers should always follow the prescription, fitting and care instructions provided by their eye-care professional.

If Something Goes Wrong

Do not wear a lens if its packaging is damaged, the product is expired, or the colour, design or prescription does not match your order. Keep the lens, packaging and shipping materials while the issue is reviewed.

Contact PinkyParadise promptly and provide:

• Your order number.

• A clear description of the problem.

• Photos of the lens, packaging and product label.

• A photo of the shipping label when the wrong item or parcel is received.

PinkyParadise reviews defective and discomfort cases individually. Depending on the circumstances and the applicable policy, the available resolution may include a replacement or store credit. Damage caused by improper handling is not treated as a manufacturing defect. 

If a lens causes pain, redness, swelling, blurred vision, discharge or unusual sensitivity to light, remove it immediately and contact an eye-care professional. Customer support can help with the order, but it cannot diagnose or treat an eye problem.

Independent Guidance on Decorative Lenses

PinkyParadise’s safety standard should be read alongside guidance from independent health and regulatory organisations.

The FDA, CDC and American Academy of Ophthalmology recommend that decorative contact lens wearers:

• Obtain an eye examination and valid contact lens prescription.

• Buy lenses from a seller that requires prescription verification.

• Wear only the brand and specifications prescribed for their eyes.

• Wash and dry their hands before touching the lenses.

• Use fresh contact lens solution for cleaning and storage.

• Keep lenses away from tap water, showers, swimming pools and hot tubs.

• Never share contact lenses with another person.
